James "Jim" Findlay

On December 30, 2022, James (Jim) Ferguson Findlay left this world for his heavenly home. He was born December 6, 1944 in Augusta, GA to William Robert and Anne Cullinan Findlay who predeceased him along with his brothers William Robert Findlay (pilot) and John Douglas Findlay (pharmacist).

Jim met Brenda Magness on a blind date, married in 1974 and said he was blinded ever since. We were blessed with a son, James “Lawson” (wife Sandra) and a daughter, Elizabeth Ann (Beth) (husband Adam Carter) who have given us five of the best and brightest grandchildren: James Keenan Carter, Caleb Findlay Carter, Noah Lawson Findlay, Braxton Gabriel Findlay and Sofia Grace Findlay. What joy they all have brought into our lives.

Jim’s mother always insisted her boys be some kind of professional. Jim graduated from Richmond Academy, Augusta College, and Samford University’s Cumberland School of Law in Birmingham, AL. He actually wanted to be a golf pro, but after law school found that he liked practicing law because he met and interacted with people from all walks of life. He was a partner in the firm of Findlay, Edenfield & Green Attorneys. His secretary, Ruth Craft, was with him for forty years. We thank her for her dedication and friendship over the years.

Jim will always be with us in spirit because of his quick wit and the ever present twinkle in his eye. The many stories family and friends have shared during this time of grief are a witness of their love for him.

A time of Family Remembrance will be Monday, January 2, 2023 beginning at 6:00 pm and the family will receive visitation afterwards until 8:00 p.m. The location is Thomas Poteet & Son Funeral Directors on Davis Road in Augusta GA.

The Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, January 3, 2023 beginning at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary on the Hill Catholic Church, 1420 Monte Santo Avenue, Augusta, GA 30904. Burial will follow at Westover Memorial Park.

Pallbearers: James Lawson Findlay (son), William Robert Findlay (nephew), John Douglas Findlay (nephew), Adam Nightingale Carter (son-in-law), James Keenan Carter (grandson), Caleb Findlay Carter (grandson), Noah Lawson Findlay (grandson), and Braxton Gabriel Findlay (grandson).
