Joan Harwood
Augusta, GA – Joan Stribling Harwood, 82, experienced a peaceful death at home surrounded by her family October 14, 2017.
Mrs. Harwood was born in Augusta, GA, a graduate of Richmond Academy where she met Walter Harwood, Jr., her husband of 62 years. Joan was a lifelong member of St. James United Methodist Church and a charter member of Whole Life Ministries. By her faith and life in Christ, she was a witness for the Lord to all who knew her. Joan enjoyed the beach, her friends, and loved spending time with family.
In addition to her husband, she is predeceased by her parents, H.B. (Strib) and Alice G. Stribling. She is survived by her four children: Walter Harwood, III, Robert Harwood (Pam), Susan O’Rourke (Michael), and Donna Gallagher (Kevin). She is also survived by her nine grandchildren: Jordan Harwood (Kristin Wright), Charles Gallagher (Hannah), Carleton Gallagher (Claire), Lindsay Lively (Andrew), Kathryn Johnson (Rusty), Sarah Culberson (Charlie), Mary Alice VanNorman (Joey), Leigh Ann Harwood, Rebekah O’Rourke; and seven great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the loving, caring staff of Trinity Hospice and Augusta Oncology Associates.
Following a private burial, a service celebrating Joan’s life will be held on Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at St. James UMC with Rev. Thurman Norville officiating. Honorary pallbearers are the Tuesday Morning Bible Study and the Griffin Group.
The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall.
