Adelaide Dye

Blythe, GA – Mrs. Adelaide Pund Dye, 87, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family members on Monday, August 14, 2023, after an extended illness.

An Augusta native, Adelaide was born on May 13, 1936, to the late Ernest Evers Pund and Louise Weltch Pund. They raised her in the Methodist faith, attending Trinity on the Hill Methodist Church.

Mrs. Dye graduated high school from the Academy of Richmond County in 1954, where she was selected “Most Beautiful Senior Girl”. After graduation, she left for, and graduated from the University of Georgia in 1958, with a degree in Early Childhood Education. She was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority. Following graduation, she married her high school and college sweetheart, Nathaniel Slaughter Dye, Sr., and moved to Canada, where he played professional football for several years. After returning to the states, Nat’s job moved them to Athens and Blakely, before moving to the Dye home place in Blythe. She taught First grade at Blythe Elementary for 20 years. Upon retirement, she and Nat moved back to Augusta, and have resided there for the last 32 years.

Adelaide, “Tutu”, as she was affectionately known by her children and grandchildren, was exceptionally warm and kind. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, and was loved by all. She was also an avid Atlanta Braves and Georgia Bulldog fan. She excelled at solving crossword puzzles and playing solitaire in her spare time. One of her greatest joys after retiring, were the many years spent attending various football, baseball, soccer, and softball games that her grandchildren and great-grandchildren participated in. Adelaide and Nat were former members of the Augusta Country Club where she enjoyed spending time and playing duplicate bridge. She will be sorely missed by all who loved her.

She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 65 years, Nat, Sr.; their three sons, Nathaniel Slaughter Dye, Jr. (Beverly), of Evans, James Weltch Dye of Waynesboro, and Fain Parker Dye (Heather) of Evans; her sister, Louise Pund Miller (Peter) of Augusta; brother, Ernest Evers Pund, Jr. of La Jolla, California; and sister-in-law, Jayne Dye Snell (Jerry) of Toccoa, Georgia; seven grandchildren, Fain Parker Dye, Jr. (Lauren) of Augusta, Jennifer Dye Hester (Michael) of Acworth, Georgia, Michelle Weltch Dye of Atlanta, Georgia, Bailie Dye Ferguson (Thomas) of Charlotte, NC, and Jessie Adelaide Dye of Jersey City, New Jersey, James Weltch Dye, Jr. of Birmingham, Alabama, and Jackson Nathaniel Dye of Ozark, Alabama; five great-grandchildren, Nate Dye, Gibbs Dye, and Adelaide “Addie” Dye, of Augusta, and Carter Hester and Caroline Hester of Acworth, and many nieces and nephews, whom she all loved dearly.
