Adrian “Sonny” Ramp

Augusta, GA – Adrian Fremont “Sonny” Ramp, Jr., passed away on Saturday, March 9, 2013. A funeral mass will be held at St. Mary on the Hill Catholic Church on Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at 12:00 noon with Fr. Gerald Ragan celebrant. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
He was born on December 22, 1938 in Augusta to Adrian Fremont and Rose Axford Ramp. Sonny graduated from Boys Catholic High School and attended St. Leo University. He retired from the US Air Force with over 26 years of service. He served a tour in Vietnam where he was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received during the TET 68 Offensive. He received many awards including the Meritorious Service Medal (2), Air Force Commendation Medal (3), Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Air Force Good Conduct Medal (7), and National Defense Service Medal. He also retired from the Westinghouse Savannah River Site.
He was a member of St. Mary on the Hill Catholic Church and was an avid golfer. He was a member of The Irish Mafia Golf Association and a charter member of Bartram Trail Golf Club. He was also a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Irish American Heritage Society, Knights of Columbus, Patrick Walsh Council, and Assembly 174. Pallbearers will be Joshua, Lyn, Douglas, Jason Ramp and Cody Shafer. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Ancient Order of Hibernians
Survivors include his wife, Loretta (Dee) Corbin Ramp: son: Richard Eugene Ramp and wife Renee; daughter: Karen Ramp Wilson and husband Steven; stepson: Bart Corbin. Shafer and wife Gayle, 8 grandchildren, and a step-grandson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Richard Eugene Ramp.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary on the Hill Catholic Church, 1420 Monte Sano Ave., Augusta, GA 30904.
