Augusta, GA – Agnes E. Thorstad (96), beloved wife of the late John E. Thorstad, entered into rest Monday, May 19, 2014. Born in Williamston MI, Mrs. Thorstad, a faithful military wife, made her home in Augusta with her husband after his retirement from the army in 1961.
Mrs. Thorstad was a devout Catholic. She was an active member of St Mary on the Hill Catholic Church, and a founding member of St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church. She was involved in many parish activities and also with the Girl Scouts of America, the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary, the American Cancer Society, the American Legion Woman’s Auxiliary, the Retired Officers Association and was a volunteer in the gift shop at Doctor’s Hospital. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Surviving members of her family are her daughter Sue Anne Thorstad of Augusta, and sons and their wives Dennis and Donna Thorstad of Spartanburg, SC, Kenneth and Charlotte Thorstad, and Donald and Dori Thorstad all of Augusta; seven grandchildren Michael Thorstad, Jennifer (Dale) Peeples, Kenneth (Ramie) Thorstad, Michelle (Steve) Smith, Ashley Thorstad, Brian (Kristy) Thorstad, Kevin (Emily) Thorstad and eleven great grandchildren.
Visitation will be Tuesday evening, May 20, 2014, at Thomas Poteet & Son Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 pm with the vigil at 7:00 pm, Rev Gerald P Ragan. The funeral mass, celebrating her life, will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, May 22, 2014 at St. Mary on the Hill Catholic Church, Interment will follow at Westover Memorial Park. Pallbearers are her grandsons, Michael, Kenneth, Brian, Kevin, Steve and Dale. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to Aquinas High School, St Mary on the Hill Catholic School or Immaculate Conception School.
A very special thank you to Pauline Williams for the love and care you have given our mother and to all of us during the past four years. Thanks also to Qiana McIntosh and the staff at Brookdale Place of Augusta. We could not have made it through these difficult times without you.
