Augusta, GA – Entered into rest Saturday, December 19, 2015, Mr. Al Frederick Osteen, 86 husband of Mrs. Retha Osteen.
Mr. Osteen was a native of Columbus, GA. He graduated from Columbus High School in 1948 and then Columbus College. Mr. Osteen earned a Master’s Degree in Chemistry from Auburn University. He joined the Army in 1948 and served in the Korean War. Mr. Osteen retired as a Major from the United States Army after serving 20 years. He was an Educator for an additional 15 years. In 2013 he commissioned his grandson as a Lieutenant in the United States Army at his West Point graduation. Mr. Osteen was a member of First Baptist Church of Augusta and served as a teacher of the George Ballentine Sunday School Class.
Family members in addition to his wife include son: Mark S. Osteen (Sherri) of Augusta; granddaughter: Samantha J. Osteen of Augusta; grandson: Eric A. Osteen (Erin) of Augusta; brother: John F. Osteen (Margaret)and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Osteen was preceded in death by his son: Lee Brantley Osteen.
A funeral service will be Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. in the Story Chapel at First Baptist Church of Augusta with Dr. Greg DeLoach officiating. Interment will follow Wednesday in Columbus, GA. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the George Ballentine Sunday School Class.
