Augusta, GA – Entered into rest Monday, January 17, 2016, Mr. Albert “Bert” Peter Beierschmitt, Jr., 85, husband of the late Mrs. Billie H. Beierschmitt.

Mr. Beierschmitt was the son of the late Mr. Albert P. Beierschmitt, Sr. and Kathryn Corcoran Beierschmitt. He was born in Vineland, NJ and reared in Philadelphia, PA. Mr. Beierschmitt graduated from Northeast Catholic High School in 1948. He was a member of the Navy Reserve. In August of 1950 he transferred to the PARNG and on September 5, 1950 the Guard was called to active duty. Mr. Beierschmitt attended OCS at Ft. Still; was commissioned in March, 1951served in Korea as an Artillery FO with the 3rd Infantry Division and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal. After Korea he served in the National Guard and Army Reserve retiring as a Major in 1969.

Mr. Beierschmitt met and married his wife, Billie, while on active duty. After leaving the military in September of 1953, they moved to St. Louis, MO where he worked for General American Life Insurance Company and Emerson Electric. He attended night school at St. Louis University and graduated in 1963. While in St. Louis their family grew by 3 girls and 3 boys.

In June of 1963, the Beierschmitts relocated to Zanesville, OH where Mr. Beierschmitt worked for the RCA Corporation as a Pricing Analyst. He transferred to RCA Astro-Electronics Division in late 1964 at Highstown, NJ. One of his assignments was Business Manager of the Ground Controlled Television Camera Assembly (GOTCHA). The cameras sent live pictures from the moon. After 25 years he retired at the end of 1988.

Mr. Beierschmitt was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 8495; Past President of Freehold, NJ Little League and St. John Vianney H.S. (NJ) Fathers Club; the Society of the Third Infantry Division; and the Outpost Harry Survivors’ Association. He has been a resident of Evans, GA since 2001 and has resided in Philadelphia, PA, St. Louis, MO, Zanesville, OH, Freehold, NJ and Leesburg, FL. Mr. Beierschmitt was an active member of St. Teresa of Avila Parish and an usher at the 4:30 Mass on Saturdays.

Family members include sons: Albert P. Beierschmitt, III and wife Larkin, Michael F. Beierschmitt and wife Dorothy, Timothy C. Beierschmitt and wife Penny; daughters: Kathleen B. Ecks, Susan E. Rowe and husband Nigel, Patricia E. Little; grandchildren: Christine Ecks, the late Robert Beierschmitt, Daniel Ecks, Cheryl Beierschmitt Gann, Katharine Little Carroll, Monica Beierschmitt, Laura Beierschmitt Gilliand, Nancy Little, Matthew Beierschmitt, Meghan Beierschmitt, Timothy Beierschmitt, Patrick Beierschmitt, Jennifer Rowe, Michael Rowe, Brian Little, Sloane Plato; great grandchildren: Emily Ecks, Gregory Ecks, Sydney Ecks, Skylar Kemp, Eliana Gann, Ronan English, Theo Gann, Corbin Gilliand, Aviendha Gilliand; and sisters: the late Eileen McNeil of Westbury, MA and Elizabeth McGee of Philadelphia, PA.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, January 21, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church with Fr. Mike Ingram celebrant.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
