Augusta, GA – Mr. Albert Brantley “Pete” Verdery, Jr., 90, loving husband of the late Cornelia Calvert Robertson Verdery, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday November 16, 2022. He was born in Augusta, Georgia on August 12,1932 to Albert Brantley Verdery, Sr., and Louise Ford Verdery.
Pete was a native and lifelong resident of Augusta, Georgia. He graduated from Richmond Academy and attended Clemson University before joining the United States Navy during the Korean War. After leaving the Navy he attended the University of Georgia until he returned to Augusta. He worked as an insurance agent for National Life of Vermont, but truly enjoyed his real estate projects.
Pete was a great mix of a family man, inquisitiveness, and fun. He was a lifelong learner. He continued to learn, to teach, and to explore even into his ninth decade. He had a plethora of knowledge, especially of that concerning Augusta history. He was an active member of the Augusta Country Club, Augusta Golf Association, and loyal member of Church of the Good Shepherd. He was a faithful Clemson football fan, avid golfer, and illustrious storyteller. Pete’s greatest devotion was to his family. He was a loving husband, father, “Paw Paw” to his grandchildren, brother, uncle, and friend to many.
He is survived by his two daughters, Pamela Robertson Verdery Comport (Russell) of Edisto Island, South Carolina, and Catherine Crawford Verdery Ryan (Richard) of Augusta, Georgia; grandchildren, Lt. Justin Adrian Comport, Kimberley Ashley Comport, Katherine Verdery Ryan, Hannah Mikell Ryan, Sarah Crawford Ryan, and John Brantley Ryan; sister, Alison Verdery Price and brother, Rieves Ford Verdery (Mary); and many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents: Albert and Louise Ford Verdery; and his brother, Charles Stewart Verdery.
The memorial service will be held Tuesday, November 22, 2022, at 11:00 A.M. at Church of the Good Shepherd with the Reverend Ted Clarkson officiating. Members of the Augusta Golf Association will serve as honorary pallbearers. Interment will follow in Westover Memorial Park.
