Mr. Alex Hughs Bailie, beloved husband of Susan Payne Bailie, entered into rest Wednesday, October 26th at his home. He was the son of John Tilkey and Carolyn Hughs Bailie.
Alex attended The Academy of Richmond County, and obtained his B.A. and M.Ed. Degrees from Augusta College. He taught in Richmond and Columbia County schools for 39 years. He retired in 2016 after teaching for 22 of those years at Lakeside High School. Alex proudly achieved the rank of Eagle Scout as a member of Troop 50. He served with the Georgia National Guard in the 1148th Transportation Company in Augusta. He was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd and enjoyed traveling, golfing, the Georgia Bulldogs, Edisto Island, family outings, and daily golf cart rides with ‘The Pups’.
In addition to his wife of 35 years, he is survived by his children: Landon Elizabeth Bailie (Perry Story), William Hughs Bailie, and Courtney Bailie Kirby (Charles), his sister Carolyn Pearl Bailie and his beloved dogs: Charlie and Bella. He was predeceased by his brother, John T. (Jack) Bailie, III.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, November 2nd, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at Church of the Good Shepherd with Reverend Bunny Williams officiating.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Church of the Good Shepherd, 2230 Walton Way, Augusta, Ga. 30904 or to the Brain and Spinal Injury Trust Fund, #2 Peachtree Street NW, Suite 26-426, Atlanta, Ga. 30303.
