Augusta, GA – Mrs. Aleyne Embry Patchen, beloved wife of the late Josef Cooper Patchen, died Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at Doctor’s Hospital in Augusta. She was 99 years young.

A graveside service will be held Thursday, July 17, 2014 at 1:00 P.M. at Westover Memorial Park with Chaplain Finley Limehouse and Andy Reese officiating.


A native of Birmingham, AL, Mrs. Patchen had been an Augusta resident for 65 years. She most recently resided in Washington Commons were she had many friends.

Mrs. Patchen was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Roland Embry of Birmingham; her husband, Josef C. Patchen; and her son, Josef C. Patchen, Jr.

Mrs. Patchen, a long retired legal secretary, pursued many artistic and social interests during her life. She was an accomplished pianist, painter and poet, and an enthusiastic bridge player. She loved reading, music, flowers, birds, and butterflies. She charmed any room she entered with her sunny smile, infectious laugh, and vibrant personality.

A loyal friend to many, she was devoted to her family, particularly her grandchildren, to whom she was always known as “Buddy.”

She is survived by her grandchildren, Josef C. Patchen, III of Augusta and Laura P. and Richard C. Krejci of Columbia, SC.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Appleby Branch Library, 2260 Walton Way, Augusta, GA 30904.

The family will receive friends following the graveside service.
