Evans, GA – Entered into rest Friday, September 20, 2013, Mr. Alvin L. Jones, Sr., 82, husband of Nancy Steed Jones.

Mr. Jones was a native of Oklahoma but spent most of his life in Columbia County. He was a 14 year veteran of the US Army and served in Korea. He worked as a disc jockey and general manager for a number of radio stations in the Augusta area. He drove tour buses for Talmadge Lewis for a number of years. Mr. Jones served as a deputy, investigator, and worked with 911 for the Columbia County Sheriff’s Department. Also, he worked for the Planning Commission for Columbia County. He was also a Greeter at Wal-Mart in Evans. He was a Lionel train collector. He attended Freedom Bible Church.

Family members in addition to his wife include his children: Stanley Jones (Teresa), Steve Jones (Chris), Barry Jones (Vanessa), Connie Shaw Davis (Don), Debbie Leopard (Mike), Alvin Jones (Cathy), Susan Curry, Jeff Jones (Sandy); stepdaughters: Sharlene Garner (Phil), Rebecca Ford (Jeremy); the light of his life: Madison Ford; and sister: Connie Mae Ness. He is preceded in death by his son: Dennis Jones.

A memorial service will be held Monday, September 23, 2013 at 6:30 P.M. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son with Rev. Alvin Jones officiating. A private burial will be held Tuesday in Westover Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions may be made to one’s charity of choice.
