Born on December 6, 1939, in Augusta, Amon grew up embracing the values of hard work, integrity, and love for his country. These principles guided him throughout his life, especially during his service in the U.S. Army. He proudly wore the uniform of our nation and was awarded the Army of Occupation Medal (Berlin) and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal for his honorable service. Amon often shared captivating stories of his time in the Army, reflecting his profound pride and unwavering dedication to the land he loved.
A lifelong supporter of Augusta's rich heritage, Amon was a passionate attendee of the Masters Tournament at Augusta National Golf Club for more than 50 years. He found immense joy in witnessing the world’s finest golfers and celebrating the tournament’s traditions with friends and family. He loved sharing colorful stories of his childhood adventures growing up in Augusta.
Amon's deep faith anchored his life, and he was a devoted member of North Myrtle Beach Baptist Church. He treasured his moments of fellowship and worship, and his faith served as a beacon of hope and comfort to all who knew him.
He is survived by Sandra, his loving wife of 54 years, whose partnership brought endless blessings and cherished memories. He leaves behind two devoted sons, Amon “Buddy” (Christy) McCormack III of New Haven, Ohio, and Brad (Shelly) McCormack of Willard, Ohio. His legacy continues through his adored grandchildren—Kyle (Kelly) McCormack, Kyerstan (Nick) Ludban, Morgan (Daniel) Pritchard, and Matthew (Sophia) McCormack—and great-grandchildren Maeve, Clare, Penny, and Lenora, who will carry his stories and spirit forward.
