Evans, GA – Entered into rest on Wednesday, July 13, 2022, Mrs. Erminia P. “Amy” Hoeppel, 96, wife of the late Mr. Robert L. Hoeppel.
Erminia was born in Elmira Heights, NY, the daughter of the late Gilbert and Jennie Palmieri. She trained as an opera singer in New York City and continued to sing late into her life in church choirs and at many weddings and funerals. Erminia attended Ithaca College, and it was there that her new “non-Italian” friends had trouble pronouncing her Italian name. That was when Erminia adopted her nickname and is known now by all but her family as Amy. She met her husband while attending college. Following their wedding, Amy and Bob moved south where they lived in North Carolina and Virginia for the next 35 years. They eventually moved to Georgia in 2003, and it is here where Amy made her final home. Amy enjoyed card-making and Bunko, and she never met a stranger, which could make grocery trips last for hours. She was a member of the Italian American Club and the Seniors Group at St. Teresa’s. Amy loved her family and was proud of her grandchildren.
The family would like to thank all those who helped and cared for Amy in the last months of her life, especially Kuiera, Denise, Emily, Leah and Tia.
In addition to her mother and father, she was predeceased by her husband, Bob, her brother, Joey Palmieri and her sister, Geroma O’Herron. She is survived by her son, Bob Hoeppel (Susan); daughter, Janet Hoeppel; grandchildren, Jordan Hoeppel and Nicolas Hoeppel and ten nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church with Fr. Theodore Agba celebrant. Interment will follow in Westover Memorial Park.
A Rosary will be Tuesday, July 19, 2022 at 6:00 P.M. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son, with the family receiving friends from 6:30 until 8:00 P.M.
Throughout her life, Amy had great devotion to St. Martin De Porres. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the St. Martin De Porres National Shrine and Institute, 190 Adams Ave, Memphis, TN 38103 (stmartinshrine.org).
