Augusta, GA – Angie Newton entered into rest on her 72nd birthday, Thursday, December 29, 2016, at her home after an extended illness. The service will be Tuesday, January 3, 2017, 11:00 A.M. in the Chapel at Thomas Poteet & Son. Interment will follow at Westover Memorial Park.

Angie was a vibrant personality filled with creativity and many interests. She was a loving wife, mother and sister. Angie was a native Augustan and a 1962 graduate of Richmond Academy. She attended Augusta College where she traveled to England with the Augusta College Choir. She worked in the Pathology Department at St. Joseph Hospital and Fort Gordon. She utilized her talent and skills to form a highly successful cross-stich design company, Canterbury Designs, where she published over 90 books and served as CEO. She traveled widely to promote her products throughout the U.S. and other countries. In her early years she was an avid water skier, competing in local ski shows. She absorbed a love of baseball from her father, and later became a devoted Atlanta Braves fan. In recent years, Angie fought a long, courageous and tenacious battle as her health declined. Her siblings would like to thank her wonderfully supportive husband Terry, who cared for her ceaselessly with great and tender love.

Angie is survived by her husband of 45 years, Terry Edward Newton; son: Ryan Edward Newton (Liz) of Sharon, SC; siblings: William “Bill” D. Austin, Jr. of Columbia, SC, Robert “Bob” W. Austin (Charlotte), Donna A. Ford (Terry), Danita A. Ducey (Tony), Daniel B. Austin (Lorilee) and Reida A. Shrempp (James) of Fletcher, NC; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, William “Bill” and Mary Austin.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lupus Foundation of America, Georgia Chapter, 1850 Lake Park Drive, SE, Suite 101, Smyrna, GA 30080.
