Augusta, GA – Entered into rest on Thursday, August 24, 2023, Ann Gunter Williams, 89.
Family members include her daughter: Gail Williams (Tim Johns) of Phoenix, Arizona; sons: Wayne L. Williams and Glenn E. Williams of Augusta, Georgia; first cousin and best friend: Frances Davis Jolly and husband Lew Jolly.
Born as Doris Ann Gunter, she is predeceased by her parents James Gunter and Velma Collins Reese, sisters Peggy L Powell and Jackie F Price.
Ann was raised in McBean and Augusta, Georgia, graduating from Hephzibah High School. At the age of 50, she graduated Cum Laude from Limestone College with her BS Degree. It was a proud moment for her mother, sisters, children, and other loved ones to witness.
Ann worked as a secretary throughout her life, beginning as a legal secretary for law firm of Carl Sanders in Augusta; as the secretary to the president of Paine College; and retired as the secretary to the Vice President and Cashier of SunTrust Bank (now Truist Bank).
Ann was very active in The National Secretaries Association (NSA), receiving her Certified Professional Secretary certification in 1980. Further, she was installed as President of the Augusta Fairways Chapter from 1984 to 1985. Through the NSA, she enjoyed travel to multiple cities through the US as well as Toronto, Ontario, and a cruise to the Bahamas.
Ann was an active member of the Baptist faith, raising her children to hold a strong belief in Jesus. Her most recent member was at Warren Baptist Church. She assisted teaching in the preschool Sunday School for many years at Warren, loving to be a part of teaching children about Jesus Christ. Ann went on a mission trip to England with members of Warren in 1997.
A memorial service will be held Monday, August 28, 2023 at 1:00 P.M. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son with Pastor Bret Legg officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to Dana’s Recovery Room, Immanuel Baptist Church, 615 Old Edgefield Road, North Augusta, SC 29841.
