Anne Matthews

Augusta, GA – Entered into rest on Saturday, May 25, 2024, Anne McElmurray Matthews, 89, loving wife of the late Rev. Robert G. “Bob” Matthews, Sr.

Anne was a native of Augusta, GA. She graduated as the Valedictorian from Hephzibah High School. She wore many hats, from mother and homemaker to administrative assistant for many years. Family was very important to her. She made sure that her family set aside time to eat and fellowship together every Tuesday night for 40 plus years, spanning over four generations! These “family Nights” were a testament to her love, dedication, and consistency to her family. In addition to being a homemaker and administrative assistant, she was the pianist at Hephzibah Southern Methodist. 

Family members include her sons: Robert “Bob” Matthews (Tanya) and W. Bryan Matthews (Rhonda); grandsons and great-grandchildren: Aaron Matthews (Tara), Peyton and Alyssa Kate; Austin Matthews (Lauren), Mason and Aria; Alan Matthews, and Carter Matthews (Maci). 

The funeral service will be held Friday, May 31, 2024, at 1:00 P.M. at New Life Church with Pastor Bryan Matthews and Pastor Bob Matthews officiating. A private burial will follow in Atkins-Winter Cemetery in Hephzibah, GA. The family will receive friends at the church from 12:00 until 1:00 P.M.
