Arlie Eugene Fiveash, M.D. died at home on July 22, 2024 at the age of 85 after many years of failing health. 

Arlie was born on September 11,1938 to Arlie Eugene Fiveash, Sr. and Helen Britt Fiveash. He attended Glynn Academy High School and Emory University, followed by medical school at the Medical College of Georgia where he obtained his M.D. degree. His internship was completed at Baylor Medical School and his residency in Radiology at the Medical College of Georgia. Following completion of his residency he served in the United States Air Force from 1969-1971, stationed at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, TX. 

Upon his return to Augusta, Arlie was instrumental in the design and development of the Georgia Radiation Therapy Center, where he practiced until his retirement in 2006. In addition to his private practice, he served on the medical school faculty and was active in training and mentoring medical students and radiation oncology residents, many of whom continue to practice in Georgia. 

Arlie had been an active member of both St. Albans and St. Paul’s Episcopal Churches. He was a generous man who supported many charitable causes and provided financial assistance to untold numbers of young people to assist them in their educational endeavors. He was an avid golfer, having been or being a member of Westlake Country Club and Augusta Country Club, and a founding member of both Secession Country Club in Beaufort, SC and Sage Valley Country Club in Graniteville, SC. 

His professional memberships included, among others, the American Medical Association, the American Cancer Society, and the American Society of Radiation Oncology. 

In addition to his parents, Arlie was predeceased by his first wife, Martha Andrews. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Dr. Linda B. Hardy; one son, Emory Fiveash; one brother, Charlie Fiveash (Betsy) of Atlanta, GA; and two nephews, Chuck Fiveash (Missy) of Suwanee, GA and Dr. John Fiveash (Laura), of Birmingham, AL. 

A graveside service will be held at the Summerville Cemetery, 2333 Cumming Road, in Augusta, GA on Wednesday, July 31 at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. Billy Alford and Fr. Eric Biddy officiating. Please dress comfortably for the weather. A reception will follow immediately afterward at the Augusta Country Club, 655 Milledge Road, in Augusta, GA.
