Family members include daughter: Jeanne Duncan Harrison of Augusta; son: George Sancken Harrison of Augusta; stepchildren: Carol Ann Jernigan (John) Cagle of Buxton, ME, Harry W. (Caroline) Jernigan, III of Virginia Beach, VA, Frank Jernigan of San Francisco, CA; grandchildren: William McLean Harrison of Augusta, Anna Darby Harrison (Daniel) Winters of Tampa, FL; great grandsons: Daniel Louise Winters and Harrison Winters both of Tampa, FL; nieces and nephews: Kay Allen of Augusta, Sara Dienst of Bluffton, SC, Marie Perry of Augusta, Nadine Lomax of Summerville, SC, Kathleen Michaels of Atlanta, GA, Chris Nielsen of St. Petersburg, FL, Joan Howard of Augusta, and George Sancken, III of Augusta. She is preceded in death by her sisters: Kathryn Sancken Dienst, Sara Sancken Davis, Betty Sancken Parrish; and by her brother: George A. Sancken, Jr.
Aurelia was a warm and caring person who was devoted to her God, her church and her family. She truly exemplified the adage that it is better to give rather than to receive. She was passionate about all things concerning University Hospital. In this capacity, she served as a volunteer at the Women’s Board of University Hospital logging in 1499 hours of service since 1970. Since 2002, she became a sustaining member of the board. She was instrumental in organizing the Harry W. Jernigan Memorial Golf Tournament and she attended each and every golf tournament and provided the trophies which were awarded. She also was instrumental in the Jernigan Cancer Center renovations and last year contributed to renovations to the waiting room and physicians consulting room. She was excited about refurbishing the patient’s rooms this year with tournament proceeds.
Aurelia was a member of Grace Fellowship and for 25 years was a member of Child Evangelism Fellowship where she served as a teacher for Pre-K children.
Aurelia was a true animal lover and was devoted to her dogs especially to her beloved rescue poodle, Buttons, who she and her beloved husband Harry adopted; and her last dog, Maggie, her devoted West Highland white terrier who gave her so much pleasure and love in the latter years of her life. As an animal lover, she donated to the Richmond County Animal Services, funds to equip an operating room which provides spay and neutering services to countless lost, abandoned and homeless pets.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. in Westover Memorial Park with Pastor Brian Fields and Pastor Wade Trimmer officiating.
