Barbara Ann Kerbelis
Augusta, GA – Mrs. Barbara Ann O’Connell Kerbelis entered peacefully into eternal rest on Monday, January 6, 2014. She was 79.
Barbara O’Connell Kerbelis was born in Southampton, New York. She attended Plattsburg University where she received her Bachelor of Science and RN degree in Nursing. She worked as Director of the American Heart Association chapter for Montgomery County, NY.
Mrs. Kerbelis moved to Augusta, along with her husband, Michael D. Kerbelis, in 1982. She was an active member of the St. Mary on the Hill Catholic Church and along with her husband started the Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration program which continues today. Barbara and her husband received the Bishop Gartland Service Award for their service at St. Mary on the Hill Catholic Church. She also served in the Pastoral Care program at St. Joseph Hospital here in Augusta under Father Daniel Munn.
Mrs. Kerbelis is preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Michael, and survived by her five children: Marcia K. Kennedy (Martin) of Evans; Michael Kerbelis (Lauren) of Martinez; Paul Kerbelis (Gina) of Winter Park, FL; Nancy K. Cox of Charlotte, NC, and Marguerite K. Leopold (Philp) of Alexandria, VA. She is also survived by her sister Marcia Ezequelle and brother John O’Connell. Mrs. Kerbelis was also a beloved grandmother and great-grandmother to her 14 grandchildren and her great grandson.
A memorial Mass will be held Thursday, January 16, 2014, 11:00 A.M. at St. Mary on the Hill Catholic Church with Fr. Gerald Ragan celebrant. Inurnment will be held in Beaufort National Cemetery at a later date.
