Barbara “Barbie” Jeanne Jarrell

Augusta, GA – Worked hard. Played hard. Wonderful mother and friend. Barbara “Barbie” Jeanne Jarrell entered into rest Thursday, January 21, 2016.

A native of Augusta, GA, Barbie attended ARC, and had so much fun there that she spent an extra year at St. Angela Academy, where she graduated in 1969. Barbie was involved with Prevent Child Abuse Augusta and Hephzibah Agricultural Club, and grew up at the Augusta Sailing Club. She attended ‘TV church’ at Trinity-on-the-Hill UMC and was thankful for how God comforted her through the Bible in the last year of her life especially. She retired after 43 years from the family business, Bailie’s Art Center.

She was the proud mother of her two red-headed daughters, who she said got their red hair because she drank lots of tomato juice while pregnant.

She will be remembered as a kind and generous lady with a unique sense of humor. She would give treats to everyone she encountered- from homemade dinners, to a beer, and her favorites- packs of Sixlets, Smarties, or bubbles. She was known for her birthday poetry, which she would title ‘Barbie’s Bad Birthday Poem ##’ and also her knack for inappropriate gag gifts.

She loved cooking, giving to others and her community, reading, traveling, and spending time with her friends. Although she couldn’t carry a tune, Barbie enjoyed music. For her memorial, she selected a ‘Greatest Hits’ list ranging from hymns of Amazing Grace and God Bless the Child played, to Sloan River House favorites of Stewball and Butter Bean, and also Janis Joplin’s Piece of my Heart. As a tribute to her sense of humor, she even requested the song Don’t Get Around Much Anymore for her service.

Barbie loved celebrations. She endured many report card dinners at all-you-can-eat buffets for her daughters, made birthday cakes for friends & family, and hosted an annual Easter Beer Hunt. She was also a wine connoisseur, favoring Bay Bridge from Kroger, and shared her love of wine with others, including her Wednesday night ‘therapy group’ at French Market Grille and many friends at T-Bonz.

Family members include daughters: Lori Lively Holley and husband Butch, Erin Lively Kirchhoff and husband Scott; grandchildren: Hunter Holley, Hayden T. Holley and Taylor Joseph “TJ” Kirchhoff; life-long friend: Janet Nowell Isenberg; sister: Sandy Sanders; step-mother: Lois Scales Jarrell; step-sister: Lois “Cissy” Brantley; and many loved cousins.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Child Enrichment, Inc., P.O. Box 12036, Augusta, GA 30914.
