Augusta, GA – Barbara Flicek Crout, a dedicated and accomplished individual, passed away on November 8, 2023, leaving behind a profound impact on the medical field and the lives of those she touched. She was born in Augusta, Georgia, on August 20, 1932, to William and Clara Owens.
Barbara's pursuit of knowledge began at Tubman High School, where she laid the foundations of her education. She furthered her academic journey at Junior College of Augusta and Augusta College, where she earned a BA degree. Her commitment to learning was evident throughout her life as she continually sought opportunities to expand her knowledge and skills.
After completing her studies, Barbara embarked on a successful career at the Medical College of Georgia Department of Neurology. Over the course of 21 years, she made significant contributions as the supervisor of the EMG lab and Clinical Faculty School of Allied Health. Additionally, Barbara served as the Chief of EMG Lab Atlanta Neurology for five years. She and her oldest son co-authored Nerve Conduction Studies, a manual still being used by professors in the field. Her expertise and dedication in these roles were widely recognized within the medical community.
A woman of faith, Barbara was an active member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Augusta serving as the Presbyterian Women's secretary for several years. Her involvement in church activities showcased her strong values and deep-rooted spirituality.
Barbara's passing is deeply mourned by all who knew her, survivors include her sons: Charles W. Flicek and his wife Donna of Dublin, GA; David Copeland Flicek and his wife Gloria of Clinton, SC; John Christopher Flicek and his wife Pauline of North Augusta, SC; grandchildren: Jennifer Rushing, David Flicek, Jr., Kara Flicek, Kelli Ann Flicek, Amber Flicek, Raven Flicek; and great-grandchildren: Chase Dinkins, Bryant Rushing, Luke Rushing, Curtis Flicek, Isabelle Flicek, and Sophie Walker. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Raymond Crout and Charles W. Flicek, and her son Curtis Flicek.
Barbara's memory will be cherished by her family and friends as they reflect on the extraordinary woman she was—a devoted professional, a loving wife and mother, and a caring friend. She will be remembered for her unwavering dedication to her work, which positively impacted numerous lives within the medical community. Barbara's legacy will live on through the countless individuals she influenced and inspired throughout her distinguished career. She was a true matriarch.
A Memorial Service will be held on 16 November 2023 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Augusta.
