With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Barbara Petty, a remarkable soul who touched countless lives with her boundless love, unwavering kindness, and infectious laughter. Born on April 28, 1962, she embraced life with a passion that inspired each and everyone she encountered.

Her pursuit of knowledge was ceaseless, and she excelled in academia with remarkable dedication. Barbara earned a Bachelor's degree in Education from Augusta University, followed by a Master's degree in Teaching and Learning with Technology from Ashford University. Her passion for learning remained undiminished, leading her to attain a Specialist degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Augusta University. Her academic pursuits led her to become a respected educator, where she left her mark on thousands of students and colleagues. Her brilliance was matched only by her humility, always eager to lend a helping hand or share her wisdom with those around her.

As a mother, she epitomized unconditional love. Her nurturing spirit was a constant source of comfort, and her wisdom guided us through life's challenges. She embraced every role with grace – a confidante, a teacher, a best friend, and a true love. Her home was a sanctuary of love and laughter, where memories were woven into the fabric of daily life. It was here in this haven of warmth where she cherished the moments spent and stories shared with Nicholas Petty Sr., her husband of 37 years, her two sons, Nicholas and Seán, and two daughters-in-law, Emily and Ashyr.

In the hearts of those who knew her, Barbara will forever remain a beacon of light. Her legacy of love, compassion, and unwavering optimism will continue to inspire us all. As we bid farewell to a beloved mother, friend, and mentor, let us remember Barbara's vibrant spirit and carry it forward, letting it guide our way during the darkest of times.

A service celebrating Barbara’s life will be held Saturday, September 2, 2023, at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 AM.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Daksha Chudgar Lydia House with Cancer Support Services or to the Golden Harvest Food Bank in her memory.
