Benita "Nita" C. McLeroy

Lincolnton, Ga--Entered into rest on Monday, July 22, 2024, Benita "Nita" C. McLeroy, 69, wife of Ruben McLeroy.

Nita was born in Salisbury, North Carolina but lived in several places before graduating from George P. Butler High School Class of 1972. Nita and Ruben began their married life in Augusta, Georgia and later moved to Ft. Meade, FL, before retiring to Lincolnton, GA . While living in Ft Meade, she and Ruben enjoyed restoring their historic circa 1918 home. She was a Master Gardener and created beautiful landscapes for her family. Nita enjoyed many other hobbies, including tutoring students in Mathematics at the local high school. She was an exceptional cook and enjoyed preparing meals for her family, with produce from her garden. She was a dedicated fan and loyal University of Georgia Football fan, “Go Bulldogs!” despite being a Florida resident and surrounded by gators for 25 years. She was also an Atlanta Braves baseball fan and enjoyed attending the occasional game. Nita was a loving and devoted wife, mother, stepmother and grandmother who truly enjoyed taking care of her family and the homes she shared with Ruben.

She is survived by her husband: Ruben McLeroy; daughter: Penny Catherine (Ricky); stepdaughter: Bethany (Michael) and stepson: Benjamin (Jeneen); granddaughter: Destinia; father and stepmother: Ben and J.J. Frick, as well as several nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. She is proceeded in death by her mother Doralee Goodman Agnew. 

In lieu of flowers, the family asks to consider donations to the USF Health Byrd Alzheimer's Center and Research Institute. In addition, if you would like to donate to your local animal shelter in memory of her life-long love for rescued animals, especially cocker spaniels.

A memorial service will be held Friday, July 26, 2024 at 3:00 P.M. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son with Pastor Brian Dickert and Pastor Todd Brown officiating.
