Martinez, GA – Entered into rest on Monday, July 31, 2023, Mr. Bennie C. Harbin, 83, loving husband of 45 years to Mrs. Sandra Dryden Harbin.
Bennie was born in Montgomery County, Georgia. He graduated from Southern Polytechnic State University with a degree in Civil Engineering. Following graduation, he went to work for the Department of Transportation. Later he worked for Georgia Power at Plant Hatch before transferring to Plant Vogtle. After retirement from Georgia Power, Bennie started his own Land Surveying Company. In his spare time he enjoyed being a member of the Optimist Club, where he was past president, as well as the Toastmasters. He was also a member of the Survey and Mapping Society of Georgia. He was of the Primitive Baptist faith. He wrote a weekly column “Then & Now” and was also the publisher of a newspaper called Good News in a Nutshell. He enjoyed fishing and playing golf.
Family members in addition to his wife include his son: Ben L. Harbin; daughters: Jeanine H. Usry (David), Jolee H. Rabun (Curt), Stacey H. Rose (John) and Tara H. Sanders (Jay); grandchildren: Quint Rabun, Morgan Weathers, Evan Usry, Hampton Harbin, Hayden Stencel, Madison Hughes, Ann Sanders and Emma Kate Sanders. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter: Caitlin Harbin Gould; parents: Clyde and Josephine Harbin; stepfather: Quinton Dickerson and sister: Sandra Way.
Mr. Harbin’s family would like to thank the staff of Regency Hospice for the wonderful care and kindness they provided.
The funeral service will be held Wednesday, August 2, 2023 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son with Elder Sam Bryant officiating. Interment will follow in Westover Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service (1:00 PM) at the funeral home.
