Bernice Richardson Smith, most recently of Evans, Georgia, passed away on July 29, 2009 at Doctors Hospital at the age of 79.

Bernice was born May 17, 1930 in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania into a large, loving family, one of ten children. Throughout her life she lived in Ohio, Michigan, Nevada, California, New Mexico and Colorado, with the last 10 years being in Evans.

She was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother and one of the greatest joys of her life was spending time with her family. She was a faithful member of Saint Teresa of Avila Catholic Church in Columbia County.

Her parents, Paul and Mary Shimelonis, four brothers and four sisters, preceded her in death.

She is survived by her husband, William, sister Catherine Black of Farmers Branch, Texas, and sister-in-law Pauline Shimelonis of Parma, Ohio; three sons, Phillip Richardson and wife Diane of Richmond Hill, GA, Gary Richardson of Detroit, MI and James Richardson and wife Yvonne of Evans; stepsons William Smith and wife Barbara of Longmont, CO, James Smith and wife Kristina of Rochester, MN, Thomas Smith of Charlottesville, VA and David Smith and wife Margaret of Slingerland, NY; grandchildren Marilyn Snyder and husband Brian of Atlanta, Samantha Richardson of Dallas, GA, James and Angela Richardson of Evans and step grandchildren William Smith and wife Jessica of Longmont, Carolyn Smith of Longmont, Hugh and Victoria Smith of Slingerland, NY, Paul Bryan of Rochester MN and many nieces and nephews throughout the USA.

Bernice’s family will be receiving visitors at the funeral home on Sunday, August 2, 2009 from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. A Vigil for the Deceased will follow.

A Mass of Resurrection will be held Monday, August 3, 2009 at 10:00 A.M. at Saint Teresa of Avila Catholic Church with Rev. Michael Roverse celebrant. Interment will be in Westover Memorial Park.
