Bess Kathryn Mullis Browning, 94, of Augusta Georgia, passed away on March 24 knowing that she would be in the presence of Jesus and reunited with her loving husband Curtis. Bess and Curtis were members of Fleming Baptist Church and raised their children based on a strong faith in God.
She was born in Laurens County near Dexter Georgia on May 20, 1926. A sweet, kind, and devoted Mother, Wife, Sister, Aunt, Daughter and Friend, Bess was beloved by all who knew and met her. She was a gentle, graceful, and elegant Southern lady. Visiting with and investing in people constantly was her daily habit and she never met a stranger. Her caregivers nicknamed her “Bless” because she was truly such a blessing to everyone expressing thankfulness for each day and all God had given her. She felt that her greatest gift was her family and her life was one of service to them. She was adored by her children and six grandsons and her nieces and nephews. Bess was the longest surviving member of her Eastern Star Chapter, and the youngest of her 7 brothers and sisters. She joined the workforce during the war effort to make radio parts, was past secretary of the Dean of Students at Abraham Baldwin College, and was a substitute school teacher. She was known for her cooking for family and guests and was always involved in and supported her children’s activities. She and her husband, Curtis Browning enjoyed dressing up for socials and ballroom dance lessons and having game nights with good friends. She saw her husband and two sons through Navy wartimes. Her children spanned two decades with her youngest and oldest being 20 years apart in age. Her inner strength, shared faith, and lessons she spoke with her life will sustain those who will miss her dearly.
