ARRANGEMENTS FOR BETH FLORIE HAVE BEEN CHANGED AS LISTED BELOW, DUE TO THE PASSING OF HER HUSBAND BIRNIE FLORIE.
Augusta, GA – Beth Florie, 64, loving wife of Edward “Birnie” Florie, entered into rest Friday, April 6, 2018, following a decade long battle with a degenerative neurological condition.
Mrs. Florie was a native of Augusta and moved to Evans in 1985. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church. Mrs. Florie was a teacher with Columbia County Board of Education and retired in 2008. She was a graduate of Richmond Academy and of Augusta College. She later graduated from Lesley University with a Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction of the Arts.
Beth loved nature and God’s creation. She loved children and dedicated her career to helping them. She had a passion for animals. She frequently hosted donation drives for animal shelters, collecting food, blankets, and other supplies for rescued animals. Her heart was for those who could not help themselves. She loved the lake and the beach and loved being at those places with her family and friends.
Family members, in addition to her husband include step-daughters: Katrice Walker (Jason) of North Augusta, SC, Melissa Freitas (Robert) of North Augusta, SC; daughters: Amy Tran (Chris) of Columbia, SC, Ashley Rivero (Martin) of Lincolnton, GA; brother: Charles R. Atkins (Joan) of St. Simons Island, GA; seven grandsons and two granddaughters. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Samuel and Virginia Adams Atkins, and her brother: H. Samuel Atkins, Jr.
A memorial service will be Friday, April 13, 2018 11:00 A.M. at Wesley United Methodist Church with Rev. Greg Porterfield officiating.
If so desired, memorial contributions may be made to an animal shelter of one’s choice in lieu of flowers.
The family would like to express its sincere appreciation to Beth’s caregivers who were exceptional along this journey.
