Augusta, GA - Betty Bostian Boliek, wife of Paulwyn L. Boliek, died July 10 at Augusta University Health Center. She was born August 21, 1937 to Herman C. and Helen O Bostian of Kannapolis, N. C. She attended the Kannapolis Public Schools and graduated from A. L. Brown High School in 1955. She graduated magna cum laude from Lenoir-Rhyne College in Hickory, N. C., in 1959.
One week after graduation she married Paulwyn Boliek, and they were married for 64 years. She taught school in Kannapolis, NC; Columbia, SC; and Charleston, SC, and then became a stay-at-home mom. In later years she worked as an administrative assistant at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, serving in the Dental School and in the Department of Student Affairs.
Betty had a wide variety of interests and talents. She was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection in Augusta for 44 years. She always taught Sunday School wherever she lived, at one time or another teaching children or adults. She was a serious Bible student and attended Jane Howington’s Bible Study at Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church for a number of years. She sang in church choirs and enjoyed classical music.
She was a voracious reader, reading everything from the classics to modern novels. She completed numerous cross stitch pieces, and tenderly cared for her house plants—especially her orchids. She was a rabid Atlanta Braves fan—often yelling at umpires on her TV screen, challenging their calls against the Braves or advising the manager when it was time to remove a pitcher from the game.
But most of all, she dedicated her entire adult life to her family. She supported, encouraged, and occasionally corrected her husband. She reared two bright and beautiful daughters. And in her later years, she relished spending every possible moment with her grandson, Tim, who was the light of her life.
In addition to her parents Betty was preceded in death by her brother and his wife, Barry M. and Donaline J. Bostian, of Orlando, FL. She is survived by her husband; daughters Lynn Howard of Augusta and Karen Parks (Charles) of St Augustine, FL; grandson Timothy Howard of Augusta.
The family wishes to thank the staff of the Plaza Floor at St. John Towers for their superb care and Latisha “Tish” Wright, Betty’s longtime caregiver and friend.
A memorial service will be held at the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, 825 Greene St., Augusta, on Saturday, July 15, at 2:00 p.m. The family will greet in Reiser Hall following the service.
Memorial gifts may be directed to the Boliek Seminary Scholarship Fund, Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, 825 Greene St., Augusta, GA 30901.
