Betty Crim Fleming
Augusta, GA – Betty Crim Fleming, age 92, wife of the late Irby W. Fleming, entered into rest on Wednesday, July 26, 2017 at Kentwood Nursing Home in Augusta, GA.
Mrs. Fleming was born in Washington, DC where she was the oldest child of the late Gilbert and Mary Crim. She grew up in Arlington, VA, graduating from Washington and Lee High School during WWII. She worked at the Naval Torpedo Station in Alexandria, VA and later at the Executive Office of the President, Washington, DC. She attended George Washington University where she became a member of Sigma Kappa sorority. Betty married Irby W. Fleming in 1947, and during their 63 year marriage they moved many times in his career. During that time she assisted Sigma Kappa chapters in several states. She worked as Y-Teen Director, YWCA, Augusta, GA from 1965 to 1971 and from 1973 to 1988 as a Recreation Center Director for Arlington County (VA), Recreation and Parks where Betty was also a quilting instructor. Mrs. Fleming and her husband enjoyed traveling and playing golf during their retirement. They lived in Augusta several times, most recently returning in 1997. Each time they were active members of Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church, where she was a member of Jane Howington’s Bible Study and enjoyed singing in the choir.
Family members include daughters: Linda J. Fleming, Augusta, Catherine Fleming Moody and husband Kenneth, Augusta; grandchildren: Janet Moody Reinking and husband Mark, Atlanta, David C. Moody and wife Melissa, Naples, FL; great grandchildren: Sydney Reinking, Lydia Reinking, Elijah Moody, Isaiah Moody, Elizabeth Moody, Micaiah Moody and Ezekiel Moody; brother: Gene L. Crim and wife Nancy, of Lewes, DE; she is also survived by nine nieces and nephews and their families. She was predeceased by her sister Joan Crim Martin, Vienna, VA, and great granddaughter Claire Moody, Naples, FL.
The funeral service will be Saturday, August 5, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church with Pastor Robert Hunt officiating. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery where her husband and parents are buried.
