Betty Bratton Holroyd
Augusta, GA – On Monday, May 15, 2023, Mrs. Betty Bratton Holroyd, 80, wife of Francis (Frank) L. Holroyd, Jr., went to be with our Lord and Savior. Betty was the daughter of the late R.M. and Margaret Bratton and grew up in the small town of Fair Play, SC. She was a graduate of Anderson Jr. College and later Lander College in Greenwood, SC.
Betty began her career in Education with the Richmond County School System. She loved being a teacher and loved all of her students over the 32 years she taught. Early on she taught Home Economics at Glenn Hills High School for 24 years. In the latter part of her career, she accepted the offer to set up the Home Economics Department at Cross Creek High School where she taught for six years before retiring.
Betty was a faithful member of Trinity on the Hill United Methodist Church for over 50 years where she was an active member and for many years taught a young adults class. Her passion came each summer as she loved traveling and supporting her sons, Trey and Chris during their youth, playing golf tournaments throughout the Southeast. After becoming a Grandmom, her focus turned to being at home outside by the pool with the kids and always remained active in working in her yard. She was a long-time member of the Magnolia Garden Club and selflessly volunteered to help with several local charitable organizations.
In addition to her loving husband of 59 years, she is survived by her two sisters, two sons and her five grandchildren. Her oldest son, Trey, wife Ashly and their sons Matthew Lander (22), Benjamin Edward (21), and Joshua Davis (17) currently reside in Trophy Club, Texas. Chris, wife Jennifer and their sons, Christopher Todd (10) and James William Montgomery (4) of Augusta, GA. Sisters, Jane Camper of Clemson, SC and Lorhett Finch of Peachtree City, GA.
A Service of Celebration and Remembrance will be held at Trinity on the Hill United Methodist Church on Monday, June 5, 2023, at 11:00 A.M. with Dr. Scott Hearn officiating. The family will receive friends in the Gathering Area following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity on the Hill UMC or the Alzheimer’s Association.
