Augusta, GA – Entered into rest Friday, April 8, 2011 at MCG Hospital and Clinics, Mrs. Betty Shellman Shaw, 64, wife of LTC (Ret) Dwain Shaw.

Betty was born in Columbus, GA but spent most of her young life in Bainbridge. Betty graduated from Bainbridge High School in 1965 and married her high school sweetheart Dwain in 1968. She was a 1972 graduate from the University of Georgia with a Bachelor’s degree in Education. Betty was a military wife who taught special education in Texas, Virginia and Georgia. She was a member of Martinez United Methodist Church and taught Sunday school as well. Mrs. Shaw was a great Georgia Bulldog fan, loved to fish, was a lover of animals but mostly loved spending time with her grandsons.

Family members in addition to her husband include daughter: Jennifer Shaw Knight and her husband Travis; grandsons: Shaw Knight, Cody Knight; mother: Ruthie Torpy, sister: Patricia Tharin. She is preceded in death by father, Lawrence D. Shellman.


A memorial service will be held Monday, April 11, 2011 at 6:00 P.M. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son with Rev. Perry Shelfer officiating.
