Betty Joe Taylor
Martinez, GA – Betty Joe Taylor (Powell), age 88, entered into rest Saturday, August 7, 2021 at home in Martinez.
Betty was born in Tampa, FL to Hattie “Pat” and Joseph Faulkner and lived there until she made her home in Martinez, GA in 2021. Since that time she has been an active member of Martinez United Methodist Church. After spending 10 years working in the insurance business, she went back to school and received her Bachelor of Arts degree from University of South Florida and later her Master of Education degree from the University of Florida (yes Dogs and Tigers, that means Gator). She taught for the Hillsborough County Florida school system and became an administrator at Leto High School and then at Gaither High School and retired as assistant principal for curriculum in 1993.
Betty was an accomplished china painter. She also enjoyed porcelain, fabric, and oil painting, crochet, working in the yard and traveling. She visited all 50 states, and a lot of Europe. Her favorite place was Alaska where she visited four times.
She is survived by her husband, Arthur H. Taylor, daughter, Pamela Jo Hickson (Keith), granddaughter, Julie Murphy (David), grandson, Robbie Northrop (Gwen), 6 grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson.
After her marriage to Art, she gained additional family members that include Chris Taylor (Laure), Tim Taylor (Alisa), four grandchildren, Caitlin, Lyndsay, Mackenzie, and Cole. She was preceded in death by her son, John D. Branch, Jr., and brother, Joseph “Buck” Faulkner.
A memorial service will be held at Martinez United Methodist Church at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, August 14, 2021. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 A.M., at the church.
