Rev. Billy Ray Bennett, Sr.
Aiken, SC – Entered into rest Monday, January 1, 2018, 92, loving husband of 72 years to Evie Cox Bennett.
Rev. Bennett was born in Goldsboro, NC but eventually settled in Aiken, SC. He served in the United States Army from 1945-1949 and earned an Education Bachelor’s degree from Atlantic Christian College and Master of Divinity from Lexington Theological Seminary. Rev. Bennett was a dedicated minister to the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) for over 60 years. He served churches in North Carolina, Kentucky, Florida, Alabama and Georgia.
Family members, in addition to wife include his son: Billy R. Bennett, Jr. and daughter-in-law Terrie Mims Bennett; daughter: Tonya Kay Bennett Whitten and son-in-law Jamie Whitten; grandchildren: Derek May (Tara), Hillary Bennett Odom (Robert), Doye Green, III, Kristen Green Fox (Chad), Lindsay Green, Taylor Brown, Kyle Brown; great-grandchildren: Alexis May, Derek May, II, Mackenzie Odom, Sofia Odom, Anderson Odom, Vivian Brown; sisters-in-law: Carolyn Cherry Bennett (the late Dr. Robert E. Bennett), Edna Cox (the late Dr. DeWitt T. Cox, Jr.); and multiple nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father: Losker Bennett; mother: Sarah Herring Bennett; brother: Dr. Robert Bennett and sister: Linda Bennett.
Funeral services will be Friday, January 5, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) Augusta, GA, with Rev. Michael Metcalf and Dr. Greg DeLoach officiating.
Pallbearers will be Chad Fox, Derek May, Derek May II, Doye Green III, Kyle Brown, Robert Odom and Thomas Monk.
