AUGUSTA, GA. – Entered into rest Monday, October 19, 2009, at the residence, Mr. William R. Rodgers, 77, husband of Suzzanne Carswell Rodgers.

Mr. Rodgers was a native and life long resident of Augusta. He graduated from Richmond Academy in 1948, played basketball for Augusta Junior College and was a 1956 graduate of the University of Georgia. Mr. Rodgers was a Veteran of the U.S. Army and served during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Augusta and the Cason Bruker Sunday School Class. Mr. Rodgers was also a member of the American Legion and the Green Meadows Golf Course.

Family members in addition to his wife include his daughters: Roxane Rodgers Beaird and husband Wes, Laurelyn Rodgers Taylor and husband Chris; son: Rev. Scott Rodgers and wife Jacki Lee; grandchildren: Lyndsay Taylor, Hope Rodgers, Cole Taylor, Grace Rodgers; sister: Louise Robinson Johnson. He was preceded in death by his parents: William R. Rodgers, Sr. and Louise Robinson Rodgers; and six brothers: Reid Robinson, Bill Robinson, Gordon Robinson, Sr., Louis Robinson, R.A. “Peg” Robinson, and Jack A. Rodgers.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 22, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. at First Baptist Church of Augusta with Dr. Greg DeLoach, his nephew Dr. Gordon Robinson, and his son Rev. Scott Rodgers officiating. Interment will follow at Westover Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be his nephews: Abbie Prince, Dr. J. Ben Deal, Russell Johnson, Craig Rodgers, Dr. Bo Sherwood, and Billy Hester. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Cason Bruker Sunday School Class.



Memorials may be made the American Heart Association, 1105 Furys Lane, Suite D, Augusta, GA 30907, or the First Baptist Church of Augusta Chapel Fund, 3500 Walton Way, Augusta, GA 30909.
