Blanche Martin

Augusta, GA – Blanche Harrison Martin, 93, was laid to rest on September 22, 2023. Her grandson, Preston DeWitt Conger, III, officiated the private service for the family. Blanche was a lifelong resident of Augusta, Georgia, and the loving wife of 39 years to the late Alfred Marshall Martin and later, for 10 years to the late Walter Bryant.

Blanche was a graduate of Converse College, past president of the Junior League of Augusta, and a member of Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church, the Augusta Country Club, and the Augusta Symphony Guild. She was also instrumental in forming the Augusta Swim League.

Blanche had many admirers, as she was a trailblazer - a very strong role model and community leader who enabled and inspired the women and men after her to be professors, doctors, lawyers, writers, poets, ministers, French-trained chefs, and Harvard MBAs in their efforts to do great things. Blanche was so proud of her children and grandchildren. And she excelled in everything she tried – tennis, skiing, bridge (Bronze Life Master), and even family Easter egg hunts.

Blanche loved to go to parties with her friends and, most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family, laughing and having fun. She was a great mom, grandmother, and friend. Time goes by too fast. We will all miss her so much.

Blanche is survived by her children: Blanche Martin Conger (Preston), Alfred Martin (Sharen), and Elizabeth Martin; grandchildren: Blanche McCune (Adam), Preston Conger (Abby), Marshall Martin, and Ann Martin; and 5 great-grandchildren.

If so desired, memorial donations may be made to Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church, 2261 Walton Way, Augusta, Georgia, 30904.
