Braxton Seaborn Harrison, Jr.
Augusta, GA – Braxton S. Harrison, Jr., 74, passed away Friday, October 8, 2021, after an extended illness. He was born in Sandersville, GA to Braxton and Nellie Harrison who preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Jan Baker Harrison, and his sister, Emily Harrison Croft (the late Joseph B. Croft), brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Timothy and Joy Baker Ellis, two aunts, Mary Jones of Macon, GA and Loretta Harrison, three nieces and ten cousins.
Serving as a armorer in the United States Army for three years, Braxton attained the rank of Specialist 5 while in Vietnam with the First Air Cavalry. Braxton earned a master’s degree in industrial arts education from the University of Georgia. He was an educator for 15 years in the Rockdale and Bibb County school systems.
An avid reader, Braxton also enjoyed cooking, woodworking, hunting, camping, target competition, cowboy action shooting, and photography. He was Baptist by faith.
Special friends include Millard Simmons of Centerville, GA, Robert and Lisa Partain of Grovetown, The Rev. Dr. Shirley Cardwell, and Mignon Lattimore of Hephzibah.
The funeral service will be held Wednesday, October 13, 2021 at 1:00 P.M. at Thomas Poteet & Son with The Rev. Dr. Shirley Cardwell officiating. Visitation will begin at 12 Noon. Graveside service with military honors will follow in Swainsboro City Cemetery.
