Mr. Braxton S. Harrison, Sr.

Augusta, GA – Mr. Braxton Seaborn Harrison, Sr. 95, entered into rest on September 12, 2014. Braxton was a good Christian man, private, humble, and reserved. He was very intelligent with a strong work ethic. Braxton was a wonderful and loving son, husband, father, and grandfather who always put his family before himself. He enjoyed laughing and the simple things in life like hunting, fishing, and was an avid reader. He loved nature and the beauty of the world around him. Mr. Harrison was a member of Swainsboro First Baptist Church.

Mr. Harrison chose to obtain his degree in Agriculture from the University of Georgia, Class of 1939. He used his knowledge on his personal farm and then encouraged others as a County Agent with the State of Georgia and as a Field Representative with Georgia Farm Bureau, where he retired in 1983. Braxton always had a beautiful garden which he and Nellie enjoyed sharing the bounty with many friends, family, and neighbors.

He and his wife, Nellie, had a long and happy marriage of 63 years before she passed away in 2008. They set their goals as a young couple and reached them. They were loving partners.

Mr. Harrison was preceded in death by his wife, Nellie Jones Harrison; his parents John S. and Flovilla T. Harrison; his sisters and brothers in law Florence H. and J.H. Boatright, Esther H. and M.F. Price; and his son in law Joseph B. Croft.

He is survived by his son Braxton Seaborn Harrison, Jr. and wife Jan Baker Harrison of Wrens, GA; his daughter Emily Harrison Croft of Augusta, GA (whom he has lived with since Nellie’s death in August, 2008); his brother and sister in law John and Loretta Harrison of Grayson, GA; sister in law Mary Harrison Jones of Macon, GA; granddaughters Kimberly Croft Jordan and husband Richard, North Augusta, SC and Karen Croft Odom and husband Robert of North Augusta, SC; 4 great grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren.

There will be a graveside service at Harrison Baptist Church, Harrison, Georgia on September 16, 2014 at 12 noon. Rev. Paul Leigh will be officiating the service. Burial will be in the Harrison Baptist Church Cemetery with visitation to follow.
