Augusta, GA – Entered into rest Thursday, January 11, 2018, Byron Nelson, 70, loving husband of Sue Nelson.

Byron taught school and managed a Western Sizzlin Steak House, but found his niche as a Marketing Representative for Federated Insurance Company. From 1979 through 2005, he earned 19 Presidents Council trips and numerous other awards. His passion for helping others was evident in the way he took pride in handling his clients’ needs. Byron served in the U.S. Navy as a Petty Officer Second Class from 1966 until 1970. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

Family members, in addition to his wife include daughters: Michelle “Shellie” Mathews (Scott), Jennifer Smid (Jason); grandchildren: Sarah Mathews, Tyler Smid; brother: Curt Nelson; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father: Lyle Nelson; and mother: Arlet Nelson Rokke.

The funeral service will be Monday, January 15, 2018, 11:00 A.M. at the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection with Pastor David Hunter officiating. Burial will follow at Westover Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers monetary donations may be made to the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, 825 Greene Street, Augusta, GA 30901.
