Mr. Carbon Trenver Stewart
Augusta, GA – Entered into rest Thursday, June 28, 2012, at Trinity Hospital in Augusta, GA, Mr. Carbon Trenver Stewart, 67, husband of Paula Stewart for 45 years.
Carbon served his country honorably in the Vietnam War as a member of the 5th Special Forces Group. During his service as a Green Beret, he toured in both Vietnam and Thailand and served as an instructor at the MACV Recondo School. He served his team as a Special Forces medic and received awards honoring his courage. Carbon furthered his medical training and service to the veterans of this country by graduating from one of the first Physician Assistant classes at the Medical College of Georgia and continuing his career at the VA Medical Center in Augusta, GA. He was devoted to his country, the VA system and cared immensely for his patients. Carbon also served as a professor at the Medical College of Georgia’s Physician Assistant Program, Carbon was also a very devoted Christian and completed a master’s degree in Arts and Religion.
When he wasn’t working, Carbon enjoyed playing golf, spending time with his family and watching his grandchildren swim. He was a very humble man and touched the lives of many people. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother and a beloved friend and colleague.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, June 30, 2012 at 10:00 A.M. in Westover Memorial Park with Rev. Tim Hunter officiating.
Family members include: daughter: Tamara Stewart Hunter and husband Tim; sons: Matthew Trenver Stewart and wife Penelope, Mikell Troy Stewart and wife Robin; grandchildren: Delaney Hunter, Mallory Hunter, Clay Hunter, Kalli Stewart, Matthew Stewart, Jr., Alexander Justice “AJ” Stewart; sisters: Patsy A. Nickerson, Gracie Alice Spooner; brothers: Doyle Bruce Vallandingham, Thomas Alvin Stewart and Charles L. Stewart.
Other surviving relatives are Carbon’s father in law and mother in law, William and Frances Bowen; brother in law Mike Bowen and wife Anne; sister in law Lynn Bowen Collins and husband Steve and nieces: Jenny Bowen and Kelly Bowen Purko and husband Peter.
Carbon was predeceased by mother and father Bessie May Belk Stewart and father Thomas Henry Stewart and brothers Roy Valandingham and Steve VaHanandingham.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund (

The family will receive friends following the service at the graveside.
