Entered into rest on Monday, June 12, 2023, Mrs. Carol Covar Casella.
Carol was a native of Edgefield, SC and the daughter of George Pascal Covar and Eleanor Boatwright Covar. She was a graduate of Strom Thurmond High School, class of 1970. She received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the Medical University of South Carolina in 1974. In Charleston, SC, a romance began for a MUSC Nurse from Edgefield and a Citadel Cadet from Augusta that lasted over half of a century. Carol was also a member of the Augusta Symphony Guild and the Rivergate Garden Club. She was an active member of St. Mary’s on the Hill Catholic Church; her faith was the cornerstone of her existence. She was an avid supporter of Aquinas High School, serving in many capacities over the years. Her husband, children and, so far, two of her grandchildren have attended Aquinas. She was proud to be a member of the Aquinas family. Carol never met a stranger and enjoyed talking to everyone.
In addition to her husband, Thomas Victor Casella, Sr., she is survived by a daughter: Eleanor Casella Loebl (Don); sons: Thomas Victor Casella, Jr. (Lindsay) and Benjamin Pascal Casella (Laura); grandchildren: Donald Hulbert Loebl, III, Carol Elizabeth Loebl, Benjamin Carter Casella, Elisabeth Anne Casella, and Thomas Victor Casella, III. She was their “CC”, and they were the joy of her life. She is also survived by her sister in law: Marianne Maxwell (Tex).
The family would like to thank her son-in-law, Dr. Donald Loebl, Jr. for his loving support and guidance throughout her illness.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, June 16, 2023 at 11:00 AM at St. Mary’s on the Hill Catholic Church with Fr. Mark Ross as celebrant. Burial will follow at Westover Memorial Park. A rosary service will be recited Thursday evening at 5:30, and the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:30 at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Aquinas High school, 1920 Highland Avenue, Augusta, GA 30904.
