Carol Strickland Sayers
Augusta, GA – Entered into the arms of her Lord and Savior, Friday, December 18, 2015, Carol Strickland Sayers, 74, wife of the late Ronny Joe Sayers, whom she married in 1962. They were married for almost 52 years.
Mrs. Sayers was born in Clearfield, PA and graduated from Curwensville High School in 1958 and Clarion University in 1962 with a Bachelors Degree in Early Childhood Education. She was a sister of Zeta Tau Alpha. She taught Second Grade until the birth of her first child, Doug. Since her husband Joe was in the U.S. Army, she lived several different places and made lifelong friends where ever she was. Later, Mr. Sayers worked for over 20 years with her husband as the Office Manager of Sardis Medical Center.
Mrs. Sayers was an active member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church for the last 40 years and was involved in everything from teaching Sunday school and Disciple classes to Medical Mission trips to making prayer quilts to Alter Guild and being Lay Leader. She volunteered with countless community organizations and charities over the years as well as being an avid cook, baker, and world traveler. Most of all she loved her family.
Family members include her children: Douglas Sayers, Tonya Sayers and LeighAnn Chambley and her husband John; grandchildren: John “Chip” Chambley and his wife Elizabeth, Sarah Kate Chambley, Benjamin Sayers and Ryan Sayers; great-grandson: Harrison Chambley; brother, Daniel Strickland and his wife Lorraine; and nephew, Cameron Strickland. She is preceded in death by her husband, Ronny Joe Sayers, her parents Daniel Earle and Mildred Strickland, and daughter-in-law Barbie Sayers.
A memorial service will be held Monday, December 21, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. at Aldersgate United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Danny Barton and Rev. Grady Mosley officiating. Following the memorial service, the family will receive friends in the Family Life Center.
