Augusta, GA – Carolyn Smithson, “Bubba”, loving wife of 61 years to Mr. H.D. “Smitty” Smithson entered into rest Sunday, May 27, 2012.
Carolyn served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. She was an Emeritas member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Martinez Chapter. During her lifetime she was active in the Forest Acres Garden Club and the Girl Scouts. Carolyn was a member of Mann Memorial United Methodist Church since 1954. She was employed by the Richmond County Board of Education as a substitute teacher. Her volunteer services included the Veterans Hospital in Augusta and local dental clinics.
Family members in addition to her husband include son: Steve Smithson (Jackie) of Evans; daughter: Vicki Jankovich (Nick) of Hephzibah; grandchildren: Justin Smithson (Elizabeth) and Brittany Smithson; great grandson: Hayes Smithson.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. in the Chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Justin Smithson, Ronald Garland, Billy Garland, Bill McClellan, Gene Johnson and Raymond Wingo.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to a charity of your choice.
The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 1:00 P.M.
