Catherine Mitchell
AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mrs. Catherine C. Mitchell (Kay), 83, entered into rest on Saturday, December 31, 2016. She will be lovingly remembered as an extremely caring, generous, and strong woman who always put the needs of others before her own. Kay's passion for gardening transcended the seeds and the soil, as she cared for her family and close friends the same way she cared for her garden: with tender care, vigilant attention, and immense love.
Kay was born in New York City to Edward and Ethel Andreacchi. She graduated from Holy Cross Academy of Manhattan. She attended Hunter College in New York City with plans to become a teacher, however, everything changed upon meeting the love of her life, Gregory Mitchell.
Kay and Gregory married on June 9, 1956. Kay was a devoted wife to Gregory for 60 years, moving over twenty times throughout their marriage as Gregory served in the United States Army. Despite their constant relocations, Kay always found a way to transform their Army quarters into warm, loving homes. While Kay and Gregory's travels brought them to countless cities across the United States and Europe, Kay's favorite city, without hesitation, was always her hometown of New York City.
Kay is survived by her soulmate and forever husband, Gregory, their three children, Michael, Beth, and Joanna, her four grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and many loving relatives and friends.
Kay's life has lovingly touched all who had the pleasure of knowing her, whether they knew her for a lifetime or crossed her path quickly and received her wide, genuine smile. While Kay's time on this Earth has ended, she will never be forgotten in the hearts and minds of those who loved and knew her, nor by the myriad plants that, because of her, will grow and bloom forever.
The funeral service will be Thursday, January 5, 2017 at 3:00 P.M. in the Chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son with Rev. Tom Kalliokoski officiating. Burial will follow in Westover Memorial Park.
