Cecil J. "Johnny" Johnson went home to be with our Lord on Thursday, September 23, 2010.
Mr. Johnson was born in Wrens, GA, on September 16, 1921, and was the youngest of 11 children. He was a long time resident of Evans, GA and more recently Fayetteville, GA.
He was a World War II Navy veteran serving in the Pacific theatre aboard a sea plane. His plane spotted the Japanese fleet during WWII and he was awarded a Presidential Citation. He later served in the Korean War.
He was employed by Southern Bell for over 38 years, retiring in 1978.
Mr. Johnson is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years and 7 months, Amilee Victoria (Vicky) Gantt Johnson, daughter, Gail (Don) Nelson, sons: C. James (Pat) Johnson, Jr. and C Ronnie (Carolyn) Taylor, grandchildren: Lori N. (Tommy) Paterson, Jared L. (Kim) Nelson, Tara L. Nelson, Meredith L. Johnson and Ronda Taylor and great-grandchildren: Justin Taylor, Thomas Paterson and Ainsley Paterson. He is also survived by many beloved family members.
The family would like to acknowledge and appreciate the wonderful care of Amanda Hall and Melanie Thain and all of the nurses and aids at Amedisys and Doctors Hospice.
Funeral services will be held in the chapel of Thomas Poteet and Son at 3 PM on Saturday, September 25, 2010. The Rev. Warren Huddleston will be officiating. Pallbearers will be Jared Nelson, Tommy Paterson, Justin Taylor, Ray Johnson, Jimmy Bodie, and Fred H. Ligon, III. Interment will be at Bellevue Memorial Gardens .
A Memorial service will be held in Fayetteville, GA, at 2 PM on Saturday, October 2, 2010, at National Heights Baptist Church where Mr. Johnson was a member.
In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to charities of your choice in his name.
