Chaplain LTC James Bray
Augusta, GA – Entered into rest Sunday, March 26, 2017, Chaplain LTC James F. Bray, Retired US Army, 87, loving husband of Judy Pou Bray.
Rev. Bray was born in Macon, GA, where he attended Lanier H. High School. He received his BA of Christianity at Mercer University and later his Masters of Theology at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. In college he was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha. Rev. Bray was a Fellow in the College of Chaplains. He served in ministry for 57 years which included: Isle of Hope Baptist Church, Savannah, GA, 22 years active duty Chaplain in the United States Army, 10 years Hospital Chaplain Eisenhower Army Hospital, 6 years Hospital Chaplain University Hospital. During this time he was pastor of Republican Baptist Church (19 years) and Peace Haven Baptist Church (10 years). As a US Army Chaplain, Rev. Bray was awarded the Vietnam Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal with two OLC, Air Medal with one OLC, Vietnam Campaign Medal with two overseas bars, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with two OLC and a Bronze Star Medal.
Family members include, wife: Judy Pou Bray; daughters: Jennifer Bray Fant and husband Patrick, Jessica Bray Moore and husband Otis; son: Jonathan T. Bray and wife Kristen; grandchildren: Cleburne Fant, Lillian Fant, James Fant and Jackson Bray; sisters: Elsie Matthews, the late Nell Parker; brother: the late Jack Bray and wife Julia; brother-in-law: Ken Parker; godchildren: Ashley McKee, Michael Williamson, Amber Seibel
Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 30, 2017, 1:00 P.M. in the sanctuary of Warren Baptist Church, Augusta Ga. with Dr. David McKinley, Rev. Dave Dillard, Chaplain Alan Faulkner and Rev. Richard Moss officiating. Burial will be at Republican Baptist Church Cemetery in Clarks Hill, SC.
