Augusta, GA – Entered into rest Saturday, August 3, 2013, after a brief illness, Mr. Charles “Charlie” Bruce Walker, 68, husband of Mrs. Rose Leonard-Walker.
Charlie was a lifelong Augustan, a graduate of Boys' Catholic High and Augusta College, and a successful businessman. While his list of accomplishments is long, though, his friends and family will remember him most for his warm heart and generous personality. When he asked you "how's your momma?” which he often did, he really wanted to know how she was doing. And when he offered you his help, he was ready to get busy. Just about everyone who knew him will remember something that Charlie did for them.
He was a kind man and a good and loyal friend, maintaining lifelong strong ties with his extended family and his friends going back to his school days. His loyalty extended to his business associates and employees, many of whom moved with him from one job to another over his 40-year banking career.
Charlie always had laughter in his voice, a twinkle in his eye, and good will in his heart. He was a bit of a prankster and really loved a good joke (though he seemed to love bad jokes even more!).
Charlie's family meant more to him than anything else. He loved them so much and treasured his time with them, whether in Augusta or down at Paulkie Island in South Carolina. He and Rose brought love, laughter and joy to each other's lives. Charlie was so proud of who his children are and all that they have done. And he was the best playmate his grandchildren ever had.
Family members, in addition to his wife, include children: Charlie B. Walker, Jr. and wife Missy of Augusta, GA, Joseph “JoJo” M. Walker and wife Lisa of North Augusta, SC, Tracy W. Carswell and husband Jim of Mt. Pleasant, SC; step-son: Chris Leonard of Charleston, SC; grandchildren: Walker and Kelly Carswell, Jude and Grady Walker, Charlie Walker III, Cole Walker, Anna Klattig, Christofer Klattig, Katherine Smith; sister: Mary Margaret “Peggy” Hatch and husband Gerry; brothers: Benjamin “Bunny“ H. Walker III and wife Betsey, Brian L. Walker, MD and wife Ginny, Joseph M. Walker and wife Kerry; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A vigil service will be held Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at 10:30 A.M. at the Church of the Most Holy Trinity.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Catholic Social Services, 811 12th Street, Augusta, GA 30901.
The family will receive friends following the service in the Parish Hall of the church.
