Charles Chandlee Biddle, Jr. (CSM Ret.)

Augusta, GA – Mr. Charles Chandlee Biddle, Jr., (CSM, USA Ret.), 81, loving husband of Imogene C. Biddle, entered into rest Saturday, May 17, 2014.

Mr. Biddle served in the United States Army for 22 years, most notably as Command Sergeant Major, Special Forces. He served in combat in Korea, Vietnam, and Thailand; with the 24th, 25th, 1st Cavalry Division; and the Training Group, 3rd, 7th, 5th and 46th Special Forces. Among numerous other personal and unit awards, Command Sergeant Major Biddle earned two Bronze Stars, the second with the “V” for Valor, Purple Heart, Vietnamese Campaign Medal, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Silver Star and two Bronze Stars, Presidential Unit Citation, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm, U.S. Jump Wings and Thai Jump Wings. In addition, he earned the Ranger, Airborne and Special Forces Tab.

After retiring from the Army in 1975, he completed his bachelor's degree from Campbell University, and started B&L Home Repairs. Mr. Biddle was an craftsman, outdoors man, avid gardener, and dog lover. He was a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Special Forces Association Chapter I-XIX.

For the last several years, Mr. Biddle was a resident of the VA Medical Center in Augusta, where he was well cared for by the nurses, LPNs, and support staff of 1D, 6D, and Hospice Care. His family will always be grateful for the kindness they showed and the quality of care they gave him.

Family members, in addition to his wife, include his daughter Nora Elizabeth Biddle, and her husband CDR Charles Michael Pumphrey, CHC, USN; his son Charles Earl Biddle, and his wife Mary; three grandchildren: MSgt Brandon Scott Biddle, and his wife Mandy; Logan Elizabeth Gonella-Stoffel, and her husband, FC1 Jonathan Stoffel, USN; and David Anthony Moss, and his wife Amber; six great-grandchildren; and his brother James Biddle, and his wife Susan.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, May 25, 2014, at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel at the Thomas Poteet and Sons Funeral Home, with Chaplain Michael Pumphrey officiating.
