Charles Cheek

Augusta, GA – Entered into rest Tuesday, December 2, 2014, Mr. Charles William Cheek, 64, loving husband to Lou Cheek.

He owned and operated the Charles W. Cheek Agency, the GEICO local office for over 31 years. Mr. Cheek was a graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force serving as a photographer in Vietnam. He also served in the Army as a 1st Lieutenant at Fort Gordon.

He was past President of the Augusta-Fort Gordon Chapter of AUSA and an Augusta representative on the ESGR Georgia Board. He was a former member of the Martinez-Evans Jaycees. Mr. Cheek was a 1987 graduate of Leadership Augusta and past president of the Local Chapter of the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors. Mr. Cheek held the Chartered Life Underwriter professional designation. Mr. Cheek was a member of St. Mary on the Hill Catholic Church and of the Knights of Columbus #677 Patrick Walsh.

He enjoyed spending time with his friends at Papa’s Hunting Club and fishing at Clarke’s Hill and Santee Cooper. A motorcycle enthusiast, Mr. Cheek also loved golfing and playing guitar.

Family members in addition to his wife include his son: Michael Cheek of Southern Pines, NC; mother: Bobbie Nell Cheek of Hattiesburg, MS; sister: Elizabeth Hopstein and husband Joe of Hattiesburg, MS; brother: Jim Cheek and wife Frances of Huntsville, AL; and other loving family members. He is preceded in death by his father, Charles Wilson Cheek, Jr.

A memorial mass will be Friday, December 5, 2014 at 12 noon at St. Mary on the Hill Catholic Church with Fr. Lou Lindsey celebrant. The family will receive friends following the service.
