Augusta, GA. — Charles Edward “Skip” Hopson, 68, of Augusta, formerly of Metropolis, IL, died the morning of Sunday, August 4, 2013.

Skip was an entrepreneur, and the CEO and co-owner of Milworx Materials Inc.,Decatur, AL. He was a graduate of Metropolis High School of 1962 and was class Salutatorian, member of the golf team and quarterback of the football team. He was a graduate of the University of Illinois where he earned a BS Degree in Ceramic Engineering.

Skip first moved to Augusta GA, and worked for Babcock and Wilcox in ceramics research and developed many innovative products. He moved onto international sales which gave him the opportunity to travel throughout the world. Later he started, Refractory Materials International in Birmingham, AL.

He is survived by his wife, Daphne Garner Hopson of Augusta GA; two children, Nancy Hopson Maher of Washington DC and Charles Grant Hopson of Decatur, AL; his father, Charles Russell, Hopson of Metropolis, one sister, Jan Hopson Vance of Roswell, GA, and his beloved dachshunds, Coco, Bonnie and Rhett. He was preceded by the passing of his mother, Marilyn Martin Hopson of Metropolis, IL.

Services will be Friday, August 9, 2013 at 11:00 A. M. at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Metropolis with Rev. Mark Dunn and Rev. Dan Whitfield officiating. Burial will follow the service in Metropolis Memorial Gardens.

Friends may call Thursday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. August 8, 2013 at the Miller Funeral Home in Metropolis, IL.
