North Augusta, SC – Entered into rest on Sunday, May 14, 2023, Mr. Charles Philip Harris, 73, loving husband of Mrs. Louise Harris.
Born in Sydney, Australia on October 24, 1949, to Charles Octavius and Viola Henrietta Harris. From an early age, Charles was determined to care for his family and build a successful career for himself. A man of many and varied interests, he excelled in wrestling, debating, rowing, rugby, chess, and was an avid outdoorsman.
Throughout his early rise in his chosen profession as an engineer specializing in Metallurgy, he assumed roles in Australia and the USA as chief operating officer, he was a true visionary in his field. Even after retirement from Georgia Iron Works in 2016, he was sought after to solve problems and provide advice internationally to the industry.
A man of vast experience, wisdom, generosity, and a world traveler. Charles was a true inspiration in both his personal and business life to those who knew and loved him.
Amongst his many friends, colleagues, and loved ones, he was admired for his deep thinking, loyalty, and biting humor.
In addition to his wife, survivors include his sister: Marlene Petrie (Graham); children from a previous marriage: Megan Vaughan (Craig) and David Harris; grandchild: Noah Vaughan; niece: Nicole Stanley (Rob); nephew: Brett Petrie; numerous extended family members; and canine companions: Dixie and Dottie. He was preceded in death by his parents Charles Octavius and Viola Harris.
The funeral service will be held Saturday, May 20, 2023, at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son with Rev. Dr. Andrew Menger officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. A reception will follow the service at the home of Jenny Addie in Westlake.
